HEY YOU LOVLEY PEOPLE
NEED ADVICE HAS ANY ONE BEEN IN THIS SITUATION OR KNOW NE THING ABOUT IT.
I TRAVELLED TO US NEW YORK LAST MARCH AND FORGOT TO HAND IN MY VISA WAIVER FORM BACK IN (OPPS)
I HAVE BOOKED A LAST MINUTE TRIP TO NEW YORK (LEAVING IN 3 WEEKS PRECISELY) I KNOW THE PROTOCOL OF SENDING OFF DOCUMENT ETC ETC AND AM DOING AND AM ALSO TAKING PHOTO COPIES OF DOCUMENTS PROVING I LEFT WHEN I SAID I DID. BUT I AM WORRIED I WILL NOT BE LET INTO THE COUNTRY NE HELP WOULD BE GREAT LOVE YA ALL LUCY
My b/f did that a few years ago. He flew into the States before coming up to Canada, was given a visa, but then flew home to Belfast directly from Canada. Apparently, Canada customs was supposed to collect the visa and return it, but they didn't.
We only figured out the error when we were clearing customs in Montreal for a flight to the U.S. My b/f got a stern talking to from the customs guy, with a warning that one can be arrested for such a thing. But he took the visa and let us go through. My advice would be to call the US people in charge of such things and clear it up before you leave. They'll probably let you in regardless, but better to be safe than.. well, sent back home.
It happened to me in Dec. We were in Niagara in Feb 05 and walked over the border to US and got the green waiver in my passport. We asked at the Canadian border when we walked back and they said they would do it at the airport. At the airport the check in staff told us it wasnt their problem. So when we got home we emailed the US consulate and they advised us to send the document back along with proof we had been back in UK ie bank statements, letter from employer etc. Which we did. Then in Dec flew to Vegas via LAX - l got pulled lucky l had brought copies of the proof and the letter l sent back to US along with green card. I got stamped in but was quite hairy for a while. So just take proof you have been in UK since the card should have been removed and then they cannot argue.
THNAKS YOU TWO BUT DO U THINK IT WILL MATTER I WILL HAVE ONLY LEFT IT ABOUT 3 WEEKS TO SEND STUFF OFF THE AMERICAN CUSTOMS PEOPLE WHERE SCARY ENOUGH BEFORE AND I AM SOOOOOOOOOO SCARED I TRIED TO CALL UP CUSTOMS THE LADY WAS SO RUDE SHE LISTENED TO WHAT I WAS SAYING THEN QUICKLY SAID SOME STUFF WHICH WHEN I TRIED TO CLARIFY WHAT SHE HAD SAID TO ME SHE PUT DOWN THE PHONE I THEN CALLED ANOTHER LADY AND SHE WAS MUCH MORE HELPFUL BUT OBVIOUSLY THEY CANNOT CHQANGE RECORDS OVER PHONE YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD HAVE A BETTER WAY OF RECORDING ALL THIS INFORMATION RATHER THAN A PIECE OF PAPER. NE OTHER ADVICE WUD LOVE THE REASSURANCE THANKS FOR ALL YOUR POSTS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
You really dont have time to send stuff off therefore just make sure you take all records with you. You may not get pulled my b/f didnt get pulled only me even though both of us had the green visa waiver card in our passports and sent it off at the same time. Also a guy b/f works with was flying to Palm Springs in Jan past and he also had the card still in his passport - he took it out and didnt say a word to immigration guys (although he took relevant documentation to say he had not been in US - letter employer, bank statements, visa statements etc to be on safe side) and they just let him through. I dont think you will be sent home as long as you go prepared!! It is scary but not in a nasty way - just because when l was pulled they really didnt say anything to me just kept me in a waiting room for half hour before reading my documentation, hitting a few keyboard buttons making a call and then stamping my passport!! Although the guy said l did the right thing bringing the details and if l was flying in and out of the states again just to carry it with me to be on the safe side!!
Dont panic and be prepared is the best advice l can give you! And then go and enjoy New York
