Hi Melbournians,

Next week I’ll be arriving in your great city (that’s what I expect anyway) to live and study there for at least a year . As I would love to share a house or flat with others I’m wondering where to find ads or if anybody knows someone looking for a housemate, let me know.
Also any general information on what to do and see in Melbourne would be much appreciated. What's the cheapest and quickest way to get from the airport to the city? Mind you, I arrive with a lot of luggage and at 5.25 am!

Cheers,

Steff

The best way from the airport to the city is the Airbus service, regular shuttle bus, runs 24h and good value.

Hey Steff

Check out share accomodation at www.domain.com.au. Melbourne is a great city and there is heaps to see and do. The Great Ocean Road is beautiful, Penguins at Philip Island, the Melbourne Museum, Southbank and Botanical Gradens. There is also a great live music scene if you are into it.

Cheers

Stephen

Also checkout www.realestate.com.au too :)

Inner city living can be expensive, but if you move 10-20 mins out the price decreases a lot :)

Hi Steff,

I would think the easiest thing to do to find share houses is search around at a few of the bookstore / university notice boards. They have them at hostels as well. So pick a nice hostel (I recommend Greenhouse, because everyone seems to love it) and search once you get here. I don't know of anywhere online where share houses are advertised well. Probably because most of those sites charge people to advertise and well, who's going to want to pay to advertise a house share!? Though maybe some of the university sites offer a place for people to advertise.

We'll have to catch up for drinks some time when you're here!

Thanks to all for your help, I will check out the websides and notice boards. Luckily I can stay at a friend's house for the first couple of days, but will hopefully find a nice shared flat soon. What are the best areas to live close to Melbourne uni? I will also be looking for a part-time job (bar work, etc.). Where would I be able to find work easily?
