Hi, I am going on a round the world trip starting in May and was thinking of starting in Cape Town and leaving from Jo'Burg as this seemed not too much of a culture shock and a good place to get into the swing of things before heading off to India.
I have now been told that I could save nearly £1000 by going straight to India. Bearing in mind that I have never been on much more than a 'package' holiday what is India (Mumbai, Goa, Dehli) like as a starting point. I know the whole thing is going to be a massive adventure and most places will be a cultuture shock and I dont mind jumping in a bit at the deep end. But I was just wondering what people thought. I have saved enough to be able to SA aswell as India so its more of a where is a good place to start question.
Thanks very much for any answers or help you can give.
I think India will be the best place for a person to do collection of pictures for his album or for exhibition .Lots of things to capture in India, if you are in Delhi and focus yourself on any topics you will have it in front of your eyes. just shoot. There are so many topics that you can start to work with firstly because there are so many activities created by people arround you.then if you are interested in capturing historical images India has a lot to offer,it depend where you want to start .You may face a cultural shocks but it will be good for you to experience and to have it recorded ,i hope you will enjoy your photography in India.

I do not agree... if you get out of CPT you will see unique places!
Try visiting Durban and Drakensberg Mountains!
Pay attention when leaving the airport, there are some tour info desks where the distribute a small book with ALL you need to know (better than lonely planet..
The only reccomendation: SA is quite an unsafe place (mainly because of extreme social contrast and echoes of aparthaid). Mainly during the night. But that people are outstanding!!!
In CPT dont miss the highest bungee jump of the world and the white shark diving!
