I never use this 'quote' button all this while and wonder what this little is meant for...to quote something we think may be useful for other travellers or good views are quoted for sharing or...???

Just a question.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Hien. I think I have my message typed wrongly. The Quote button is referred to the button labelled with 'Quote' alongside with other functions such as 'Spam' and 'Rate It!'

I find it funny that this question came from an "experienced" user like you.

Have you ever tried to click on it to see what actually happens?

Go ahead, try it. :) Don't worry, your computer will not explode.

I just used that very "quote" button to quote your post, above. The quote button enables me to give context to my answer. When many people post, the topic naturally goes off on various tangents. When I want to respond specifically to what one person said, however, the quote button allows me to isolate that one comment/post and identify the poster. Now you know, for example, that I'm referring to what you said and not what Hien said.

Perhaps you were copy/pasting before, Lee, and adding in people's names? This way is much quicker!

To be honest, it took me a few days to figure this one out too when we first put it up :) It's basically an easy way to quote something in that particular/specific post.

Once you have started typing, you can always use the 'quote' tab above the text entry area and quote things from several different people by copying from their posts and manually entering their usernames, but the button is a great way when you are just trying to quote one person, in one post as it's WAY quicker. Hope that explains the difference a bit, although they essentially do the same thing.

Thanks Tina and Sam! YOU are just that thoughtful!!! I used to copy and paste or using tab scripting to quote...and I don't think I can 'just click' on the specific post just to test whether the button is functional or not (imagine if every guru&resp. members click on the 'spam' just to test its functionality...then that'll be an over-load work for our moderators).

Thanks.;)

Never occurred to you to actually test that button out before you started this thread, huh? Have you actually been on a forum other than TP?
