I'm planning a trip to Vanuatu probably next year when I hop over to Australia. Has anyone been there and are the beaches worth checking out? Also, I need to know if it is a safe place for female travellers on a budget?
Any help and advice is much appreciated!
Vanuatu is definately worth a vist. My partner and I love it there so much. The people are friendly and are so relaxed.
There arent any surf beaches but their beaches are so lovely. Crystal clear water and its great for snorkelling.
I would not hesitate to go anywhere in vanuatu by myself. There is very little in the way of crime. We are going back in september and this time we will also go to Tanna and Santo.
Do yourself a favour and go have a look.
Definitely go!! Check out my blog entry at http://sacha-e.travellerspoint.com/ and you'll see why! It's just the most amazing place.
Like Jody said, there's very little crime and everyone is really friendly. other than taking all the normal precautions I wouldn't worry aboout travelling by myself, although maybe if you at least get in touch with a few local ppl (u could probably find some on travellerspoint - travel help)then at least you can get more of an insight and have someone you know incase of an emergency.
As for the budget, if you sort out the type of activities you want to do before you go and book them and account for general expenses you should have a great time, although I have to say that the food is generally not cheap - on par with Aussie prices I found - I think because there are very few local food stalls, but a decent dinner came in on avrg around $17-$25, but you can always do as my friends and I did, and visit the local supermarket and cut lunch out of the budget :P
Hope that helped. Let me know if you want any more info and feel free to ask whatever!
