Hi,

Why not Chiangmai...? So much more to see, experience and enjoy...Pattaya...? sun, sea and sex...minus the last, you get the other two in Malaysia, right?

Hello,

Chaing Mai is a good mountain city to go and see. A village of longneck people, orchird farm, elephant show, beautiful sightseeing, fresh air are advantage.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Thailand wherever you go.
Duc,

From a "cost" point of view Pattaya will be a little cheaper. Starting from Bangkok the price to take a bus to Pattaya is around 110 baht. Hotels are a little cheaper and restaurants are a little cheaper. Ride all around town on the "baht busses" (like a bemo) for 5 or 10 baht.

If you go to Chiangmai look into the overnight train from Bangkok, you get the ride, sleep on the train and save the price of a hotel room too. There are many travel agents in Chiangmai (Pattaya also) with a menu book of available tours, some of the tours include the "Longneck Villages" and Golden Triangle.

If you have a little more money there are some far better options for travelling on from Bkk.....
Chiang Mai - there are cheap flights (3000baht?) available to Chiang Mai...check out Air Asia and Thai air and it's cheap rate subsidiary. The domestic terminal is right next to the International at Bkk you can walk over or get a courtesy bus.
Chiang Mai is about 850 km north of Bkk so road and rail options are somewhat arduous unless you break up the journey.

Getting from Bkk Airport to Pattaya is easiest in a taxi or limo. the trip takes 1.5 to 2 hours and should cost 1200 to 1800 baht plus about 150 toll charges.(sometimes included) and there's no hanging around waiting for a bus.. Agree the fee before you go; the meter taxis do not run their meters just a fixed fee. If you make a friend on the plane you can share the cost.
There is also a minibus service that costs about 200 to 300 baht, but it doesn't start til about 9.00am. the advantages of both these is they should drop you at your hotel and pick you up right outside the airport so no struggling with your luggage.

If you choose a limo make sure you see the actual vehicle you are going in before you pay,it should be a new Camry, not a 25 year old Volvo or Merc!
