Summer Olympics, If I recall correctly (now you may inform me if i'm wrong, but I'm sure i'm right).
Dosen't Canada hold the dubious record of being the only host country NEVER to win a GOLD medal

That's ok, we've won enough in other people's countries. We're excellent hosts after all. Sharing our wealth with the world.

Wonder where the UK is in the medal standings....oh look #18.....

Hey at least the UK has one some medals.
and considering no one in the uk really competes in most of the sports on a yearly basis I think thats quite good. I've been in this country for the past 10 + years and i'm still to see a proper mountain

Yup - that was in Montreal back in 1976. 20 years ago.

Yeah, I saw this short documentary on this inventor in the UK who had this surface made from rollers that you ski on during the summers. ....It'll be the next great thing !!!

Has anyone seen photographs of Ski Dubai? They built an entire ski resort - in the desert. Wonder if they'll be competing in Vancouver in 2010...?

Can't believe I missed this thread! I had heard about the Canadians now loving the Norwegians. Naturally, the Norwegians find this the most normal thing in the world to have done. They're just so kind!

A disappointing weekend for Norway though. There were supposed to be two golds on the relays for men and women cross country; but they both didn't even end up on the podium. First time since 64 that that's happened apparantly!!! At least Kjetil Andre Aamodt won another gold and set a record for being the first man ever to win a gold medal at three different Olympics (3 x Super G).

I tell you what; I am deeply impressed by how many medals the Norwegians win considering there's only 4.5 million people in the country (even though they themselves seem disappointed by this years tally). If you stack up the medals by nationality, Norways lead must be INSANE!!!

That's called the CRUDE MEDAL COUNT. I can't find anything on it for winter olympics, but found more than a few pages on the Athens games, where the Bahamas was the big winner, with a count of 6.3 medals of each million inhabitants (even though Bahamas only has something like 317,000 people in it, but you get the general idea).
