Another update from here...
Have you already booked a hotel Pete? I went for the hotelless ticket price but just found some really nice apartments for rent via the last minute booking option here. They are the YourStay apartments (4.5 stars ) and on Broadway so perfect location. The studios are 150 a night but there's also an option for a 2-bedroom for 275 where we could potentially all 4 stay (depending on your dates...).
Let me know, there's only 2 left for the dates we're after
Sam, what airport are you coming into? I can come pick you guys up if you want. I live really close to the airports, so its no hassle.
They Yankees and Mets both have games scheduled for while you are here Sam, but only the Mets while you and Peter are here. This early in the season I would be surprised if the Mets sell out, but the Yanks game might.
The lowdown on the birds of prey center is that they are open to the public on Sat and Sun 1pm to 4pm
Unfortunately their falconry exhibition starts the last weekend in May but they are open on weekends now to go and visit and to see the birds and I think that their tours are running showing the programs that they run for conservation.
Let me know if you want to go still.
As for seeing a Television show,
I have just found out that if you want Letterman tickets you have to get them a year in advance. Same with several of the other popular shows in the area. The other option is to just show up outside the studio an hour or two before the show starts and hope for a standby ticket if someone doesn't show up.
I wouldn't think that was a very fun way to spend your vacation though.
Sorry about that one, it's just not enough notice to get it all set up in time.
We're coming in at JFK International but it's quite late on the Saturday so don't worry about it, we'll catch a cab or bus or something. Should be no problem at all and considering it will most likely be midnight when we get it, we'll most likely end up going straight to bed (boring... )....
Bummer about the TV show but after you mentioned it, I remembered having heard it somewhere else too....
A baseball game might be good. I was at a Yankees game a few years ago and that was fun. Probably play that one by ear when we get there! As my fiancee doesn't know about the trip yet, I'll wait till her bd next week to tell her and then see what she's up for doing as it's been a very long time since she's been. Most likely some of the more 'touristy' things like the Empire State Building! But we have a few days so plenty of time for the basics....
Are females allowed on this 'NYC get together?'
NO GIRLS ALLOWED!
Just joking. We'd be happy to have you along. You won't even be the only girl. Peter's wife(I think) and Sam's soon to be wife will be along and my girlfriend will be joining us too. Where in the city are you staying?
I am going to send out my phone # to everyone who is planning on joining us in the next couple days.
Definitely feel free to join us!! The more the merrier is my motto
Just told my fiancee the other day that we are heading to NY on Saturday and she is super excited (who wouldn't be right...)! Anyway, it's shaping up to be a good time.
Accommodation seems pretty limited at the moment but there are a couple of reasonable options still around. I'll keep you posted as the week goes along.
