I will be travelling to Barcelona at the end of March for a 4 day stay. I've the days sorted, but its the evenings - what's a girl to do on her own in Barcelona in the evenings . Can anyone give me a few tips.

Day tips also welcome - and how safe is it for a lone female traveller in Barcelona. Any feedback will be appreciated...

I'd be interested to know the same- but also any suggestions for travelling alone in other parts of Spain. Vaguely considering it for me next trip.

It is always hard to find something to do in the evenings...
Sorry, I can't help you this time. I have only been in Barcelona once, alone. I went to a concert and arrived quite late to the youth hostel I was staying in (off the ramblas), and didn't have that much of a problem. Hope someone can recommend any good places to go to and have something to drink!!!

Hi, firstly i would say make sure you look after your stuff and try not to walk about looking lost after dark - or at all thinking about it. I was in Barcelona a few years ago with a friend and we arrived at about 11pm as our train was delayed. Had to get the metro to our hoatel, but we werent really sure where we were going. To cut a long story short i was mugged, my daysack was grabbed off me and they took off with everything valuable. I was then told by a policeman that Barcelona had some very bad neighbourhoods which were notorious for that kind of theft. So general advice would be to try and go out in groups, and if u cant ttry to get cabs from one place to another rather than wandering around.

Hope this is useful and hasnt scared you off!! :)

Thanks Nickla - that was a really heartening story that has instilled a sense of fear and foreboding... I'll be sure to stay in my hotel room the entire stay

I'm looking tips more on what I can do in the evenings as a single traveller - i'm up to speed on personal safety.

Cheers..

you are awesome, thats all i can say. I always say that girls can travel alone, but its a total dumbass thing to say cause im a guy and know jack sh!t about it. and i usually get told by girls that they can't. i still believe though! just keep a head on ya shoulders like all travellers should and no problem. people get paranoid i think.

I've visited Barcelona on my own about 4 years back. Didnt have any bad experiences but the streets are rather dark at night...so the usual caution should apply and beware of pickpockets too.

Otherwise, it's a safe place for a lone female traveller.

At night, you can go out to the tapas bars which is quite a good place to relax and mingle with the locals, they're curious about you especially for me being an asian.

During daytime, suggest you visit all the gaudi buildings..they're not to be missed and if you have more time, take a day excursion to montserrat. It's famous for is monastery and boys' choir but the scenery is really something.

Also be sure to just sit around at the harbour during the evenings to watch the sun go down.

Barcelona is definately worthwhile!

Went through Barca a few months ago and had an amazing time. Ramblas is great fun, but the clubs down on the beach (don't remember where exactly) were unreal. We had a great time each night and managed to get in around dawn each day

Cassy,

Barcelona is a city that never goes to sleep and there are always people on the streets. As long as you dont stay out too late or wander off the main areas by yourself, you will definitely be safe! I would say pick a backpacker hostel - that way, you are sure to meet up with some other people who are going out for the evening.

An Irish pub is always a good bet as well!!

Barcelona is fantastic - you are going to love it!!! ;)
