Of those I've been to so far, my personal favourite is Perhentian islands, located on the east coast of the peninsula. :)

pulau lang tengah, terengganu (east coast)
its AMAZING, CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER!only 2 or 3 places to stay there and u cant walk to any of those if ure staying in one of them, its *swoon* VERY secluded but all-inclusive, rooms & food. stay at square point resort.

pulau tioman, johore (nearer to singapore side)
its also as nice, but the island is bigger (its duty free, u can buy CHEAP liqour and chocs) and many many places to stay, mostly chalet village style

I'm going to Perhentian....does anyone recommend a place for accommodation?

I loved Perhentians but I found accomodation over-priced and very poor quality. That doesn't mean there is no good accomoodation though.

Its a great place to learn to dive though. Its as cheap as Ko Tao in Thailand, but with small groups/few other people. I recommend Turtle Bay Divers.
