Hey all.

Hoping I can get some info or recommendations on good hostels in NYC. I am travelling there over the Christmas/New Year period 06. If anyone can tell me of a decent place they stayed that is preferably close to Times Square it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ah - the old NY hostel chestnut - see threads below.

Personally I would like to recommend not staying at the Chelsea International as my room there smelled of a mix of vomit and bleach, the foam mattress barely existed and the shower didn't work, but there you go...

I stayed in a hostel in the East Village called "Jazz on the Town" - it was a little cramped but its New York! Other than that, had no complaints really. The only thing is its a bit of a walk to Times Square from there.

They do have another place called Jazz on the Park, might be slightly closer to where you want.

Check out the site

You can get details on both hostels on that link.

Hope that helps!

I stayed at Big Apple Hostel once. Great location, it was right in Times Square. It was a decent place and was certainly very clean, but the people at the front desk were rather cranky.
