I'm thinking about a trip down the west coast this summer from Seattle to L.A. I've done my fair share of traveling and I've done this same trip by car a couple of times before, so I'm thinking I'd like to take a different approach, like hiking/camping/hitch-hiking, that kind of off-the-beaten-path type of thing. I've done some hiking and I'm in pretty good shape, but I've never attempted such a big trip in this way. Time is not a constraint, so what do people think? Is this even plausible? Have you done it? Know people that have? What were their experiences? Any advice?

Well... there is always the Pacific Crest Trail. It goes from the Canadian Border to the Mexico Border. I am sure it would be great to make your way South along it. I've done various parts of it, and it is wonderful.
