Can someone recommend a decent hostel in Sydney for over New Year that has private rooms? Also is it likely there will be an additional cost for hostels over New Year - l have noticed notes posted on some websites about this for as much Aus$100 per night (NYE and NY Day) which l think is a bit extorionate!
$100 extortionate? For a private room in a hostel in Sydney? Not at all. Low season they are $70-$80 per-night in the good ones. Try the Maze in Pitt St. Its on the Nomads backpackers website as is Wake-Up. Y 0n the park in Wentworth Ave is probably the best value in town and is unlikely to jack up the prices over xmas.
dont think l explained my self well - the Aus $ 100 is per person on top of the room rate only over New Years Eve & Day - surely that is extortionate on top of the regular room rate?
Are they doing that? Greedy people if they are. If you find out who's doing this let me know.
But yes, that is extortion. Problem is that there's more people wanting beds than actual available beds over xmas. Byron Bay is worse. They have a -5% accomoodation availability for about three months of the year and can charge whatever they choose to. I think I need to buy a hostel in Sydney...................
Cant remember the specific hostel now but will give details - l reckon we need to make our reservations asap - let me know if you need a partner for that Sydney hostel
Ha! 213 posts each is a good start to a partnership.
If you're looking for a hostel over xmas away from the city that's clean and in a cruisy suburb close to everything check out Glebe YHA. I checked it out today. It's quite good.
you better catch up soon - lm on more posts!!
I saw Glebe on a website looks good! Im not a YH member - should l join or is there no point
Glebe Point YHA (assuming that's the one you're talking about) is one of my favorite hostels ever. Its location is the main reason for this (Glebe is this awesome neighbourhood with a very bohemian atmosphere, and countless little cafes, restaurants and used bookshops lining the road toward the city center - 10 minutes away from downtown by bus, but it almost feels as if it's a small bustling village), but the hostel itself has a large number of good points about it as well, chief amongst which is the rooftop area with hammocks to relax in, drinking a cup of tea and watching the sunset.
Becoming a YHA member is worth it if you stay in YHA hostels more than ten nights a year ($3.50 discount per stay, at a membership price of $35), or just if you don't have any backpacker card at all (VIP and Nomads are the other two big ones), as the discounts usually pay for themselves as well.
I might nick your text for my website Sander. That's a very good description of Glebe, I almost felt like going back.
It is worth joining the YHA.The card is about $37.00 and if - for example - you purchased a $500 bus pass the card would give you 10% off effectively paying for itself straight away.
