My GF and I are off on our RTW trip on the 10th of March and the second place we get to is Fiji.
We've got only got a couple of weeks and would like to experience the best that the islands have to offer.
Any advice anyone could give would be amazing!
Research the tourist track and then do as much as you can to stay off it!
I went to Fiji in 2000. There are some beautiful islands around that whole area that are just breath taking.
There are many tiny islands that are only a short boat ride away…I would recommend you go to a place called Champagne Bay (cant remember how far that is from the main Fiji island but is def worth the visit...The sand there is like baby powder and the water is crystal clear, and the view…is describable!
Yassi-i-rarri (not sure of the spelling) was also another nice island to visit! there was a gorgeous Lagoon that was beautiful to swim in...(its also where they shot the movie blue lagoon) I would have to say that that was my absolute favourite place...
When we were there we approached a few taxi drivers to see if they could drive us around the island for the day...We found a driver, (in a rather dodgy car) to drive 4 people around for the whole day for $30AU. You can usually get someone to drive you around for the day for less than $50AU..(I wouldn’t pay more than that!!)
I would recommend that you be careful of people trying to rip you off! Especially with souvenirs. They are a little sly, so just watch out and dont forget to bargain with them...I would also examine the souvenirs that you buy as many of them are not treated and will not pass customs upon your return!
Hope this helps!
