Long time lurker, first time poster. I love all the info on this site.

anyways, i need some advice from you travel veterans.
Heres my plan for a rtw trip, please tell me what you think, suggestions, critiques, anything....

Toronto -- London

London -- 2 months train travel across europe (Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Helsinki)

Helsinki -- train to St.Petersburg

St.P -- Moscow (3 days)

Moscow -- trans Siberia railway across Russia/Mongolia and arrive Beiging.

Beiging -- Shanghai -- Singapore -- seoul -- tokyo

tokyo to los angelas, take bus across america to NYC

NYC to Toronto.

Time: about 4 months

How much do you think this will all cost me, just transportation alone?

Hi,

I'm planning to take trans-siberian train as well some time soon. So far found this website: http://www.seat61.com/Trans-Siberian.htm.

There is some info for other countries as well.

Hope it will help with at least bit of planning.

Cheers
Babs

well its a pretty cool itineraty, however I think 4 months its not going to be enough at all... if you say your are going to be in Europe for 2 months.... that leaves you 2 months to travel around ASIA and AMERICA.. If you are going to go from Shanghai to Singapore it means you are going to pass by Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.... and how are you going to miss them.. you need a bit more time around there.... and buses in USA take ages

I do agree! I'd spend more time in SE Asian than inside a bus in North America...
I am not sure about the costs cause they will be vary a lot from EU and China, for ex. As you will be in a rush, I'd guess an average like 15 US$/day, including an eventual regional flight.

hello!
if you worry about transsib prices- don't!! it's pretty cheap!!
i know it because i checked the prices one week ago...

but as i'm russian i can't help adding one comment to your trip..are you really going only to PASS the siberia by train without making couple of stops?? hard to believe...

from my point of view from all 4 months its not worth spending 2 in europe...for me it starts looking the the same after 2d week...besides its too small

Get a RTW open jaw flight. View as a start http://www.thetravellerslounge.co.uk/round-the-world/roundtheworldtickets.htm and info. on http://www.hobotraveler.com/aroundtheworldairfare.shtml Best place for you to start NY and return NY You will have far more time in each destination. Usually the tickets cost around 1,300US to over 2000US depending your itinerary
