Hi there,

I will be heading to NZ in early April. Among other places I will also stay for about a week aroung Napier. In a place called Waimaramara Beach.

Since I am not really familiar with that area it would be great if there are any local recommendations.

I am mainly looking forward to any recommendation for nice wineries (or a whole wine tour), some nice day hikes and some sporting activities. I love (cheap) golf - any good recommendations there?

Many thanks for your help.

Bjoern.

Waimarama is a one road in one road out place. Its very isolated, but one of my favourite spots in NZ. Its totally off the beaten track, and about 40 minutes (from memory) from Havelock North. Its one of those places that you have to go to find out what to do there as its not well publicised. I think you could just have a good time doing not much, we always do.

Napier on the other hand is a smallish coastal city: good cafes, a couple of backpacker hostels, and lots of fruit picking work. Again, not particuarly well known for any one thing. Wineries are good though, especially down towards Te Awanga and Cape Kidnappers.

Did a really good wine tour from Napier, 5 interesting vineyards and excellent lunch!! I can't remember the name of the guy who did it but there are leaflets in the Criterion hostel (which is a pretty good and cheap place to stay btw).
