What are peoples experience with this in the UK?
Do you pay at the GP? Are they as reliable for up to date information?

Yes, you do normally pay for vaccinations and the costs vary depending on what you have and where you go. I have found GPs to be very honest and knowledgeable about what is needed. The last time I was vaccinated I went to a GP on Finchley Road which has a specialist travel clinic, called up the day before, turned up, had a chat, had jabs, got certificate and left, very easy and friendly, cost about £70 for 2 jabs.

It probably depends on wherwe you are. A lot of larger surgeries seem to have travel clinics, or at least maybe a Nurse who specialises in this and knows the stuff.

But if you live out in the sticks I doubt a really small clinic would have up to date info.

You won't pay for tetanus, diptheria, and polio as they'd do them anyway, but anything extra like Japanese Encephalitus (expensive) Hepatitus and Rabies will cost you. They were about £25 -35 each
I had to pay a one-off £20 for the initial consultation wih the nurse.

I also paid to see the doctor about my anti-malarials. You definatly should discuss it with a doctor, but I wish I hadn't paid for the actual prescription in the UK, when i could have bought doxycycline v cheap in Asia.
