Hi guys,

I'm currently puzzling over the requirements for proving funds on a WHV. I know I need to be able to show I have about £3000 (even though I may not be asked to do so), but how do I show this? I was planning on taking that much in travellers cheques, but am worried about losing money cashing them later on. I'm travelling for 5 months before arriving, so I can't really show a bank statement as it'll be 5 months old by the time I get there, and it has to be dated within a month of arrival. Obviously it'd be stupid to carry that amount of cash.

Has anyone else had the same predicament?

Howdy,

Read these FAQs http://www.studyworkandtravel.com/html/FAQs.htm.

Its unlikely you'll be asked and if you are you can show them a statement printed off the web or something. Or an ATM receipt. Perhaps carry mimimal travellers cheques, open an account when you get to Oz, then transfer the money from home. If you're going to work you're going to need an Australian bank account anyway.

Where did you read the bank statement has to be maximum one month old?

hey, thanks for the link, I'll check it out. It's actually NZ I'm heading for, and when I got my visa they sent a slip with it which stated that a bank statement had to be max. one month old. I think I might have to bite the bullet and call the ridiculously pricey advice line to find out for sure whether an internet statement would be sufficient. I know it probably won't be an issue at all but since we don't have a return flight then they'll be more likely to ask and I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks again, Juliet

:)
