NB A HOTEL/HOSTEL'S SECURITY SAFE ISN'T NECESSARILY ALL THAT SAFE! NOt if the staff are involved in dishonesty, or if the 'security' boxes are simple yale-type locks - they can be picked too easily - use your discretion. I think a money belt with some cash and an electronic travelcash card is the best You never take your money belt off except when you are in the shower and even then you make sure ti is still under your sight at all times

wot about at the beach? when ur in the sea?.. u cant keep an eye on it or a hold of it all the time!

That is a good point.

What about those combination locks that you can buy to lock your luggage with? Stealing a whole big suitcase might be more discouraging.

anybody else got any suggestions ?

Get yourself a pacsafe.. they work beautifully and make it almost impossible for your whole bag to be searched. Someone might get a hand in, but that's about it - and you can lock the whole bag then to something like the bed or desk and they can't even take the bag without taking the furniture.

Admittedly I never got ripped off even once in Vietnam and didn't bother with it.

A pacsafe? What is this?? How much does it cost, where can you get it? Is it only avaialbable in the USA I have enver heard of it?

Pacsafe make a range of secure travel luggage, including the most well known product, a stainless steel mesh net that fits over your backpack. They are avaiable pretty much all over the world... or you can buy them online.

I also travel with a pacsafe money belt, pacsafe bumbag, and pacsafe slashproof, secure daypack. That is why I rarely need to use my backpack cover... all my valuables stay in my secure daypack! My backpack is generaly just full of smelly, dirty clothes...

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please... ]
