Dunno if this has already been done to death, but what does everyone miss when they go away from their home country? The couple of times I've been away I missed:

1. Glasgow. The buzz and the clubs and the social life. (Partly because I was in the U.S.A. and under 21, so good nights out were few and far between)

2. Marmite! Although I found a little shop in Minneapolis which sold it and other British foods (Cadbury's chocolate - SO good after 3 months of Hersheys!)

The second time I was away the only thing I missed was my privacy, as I was with someone who wasn't happy travelling alone. She left a couple of weeks before me though and so for the last while on my own I was happy as Larry!

What about everyone else? I'm preparing for a big trip and am unsure how I'm going to find being so far away from family and friends for so long.

I didn't miss as nearly as much i thought I would, but I kind of missed relaxing in my pyjamas watching films on the sofa. But now I'm back I hate it! I'm sick to the back teeth of nights in doing nothing.

Decent mayonnaise eg Hellmans. The sickly stuff they sell in Australia and New Zealand is not mayonnaise, its just wrong.

ha ha, funnily enough more people have told me about Aussie mayonnaise than probably anything else about Australia! It must be terrible! However, it's not all bad, as I'm a big fan of Top Deck, and that other chocolate you get in Australia which has four squares per row, each of them with a different soft centre. You don't get either of them here, and since my best frind split up with her Aussie boyf my supply has been cut off!

I miss my dog
the only other thing I've found is that drinks can be a little expensive in some parts of the world, I'm used to always getting free refills with my Pepsi. Not a big deal but that's the only thing I've ever missed when travelling

Things I miss when away from home:

(1) Chicken wings
(2) The Amazing Race, Lost and Survivor

That's it. Frankly, there's a lot more things that I miss about travelling when I am home.

Now I'm back there's a few things I miss!

Right now I could just tuck into some 15baht Pad Thai from the street stalls in Bangkok, with chilli and peanuts! yummy.

The only thing that I really miss sometimes while being away is spending quality time with my close friends and family .
I never had problems to make new friends, but it's just not the same.

Interesting quote from an article I read today from the Toronto Star website, called Of getting stoned, sex and cannibals. It's about J. Maarten Troost, author of The Sex Lives of Cannibals. He was talking about his time living with his girlfriend in the South Pacific, which originally they had done to escape from Western life:

The island antics soon became their reality rather than their escape. "The thing about getting away from it all is all good and fine but it becomes like home after a few months," Troost says. "The nature of your problems change (and) at a certain point just fantasizing about a supermarket in North America becomes your escape."

When I am away I miss just sitting on the patio in the summer having a few drinks with friends. Yet, when I am home, I miss the smokey little crew bars of ships! Never happy...

oooh....and when I was in the Mediterranean, I missed PEANUT BUTTER so much! The stuff that they have over there is just not the same as a good ol' jar of Jif here!
