We're staying in Koh Samui in April and would like to visit either Koh Pangang or Koh Tao for a couple of nights. Would appreciate any advice on which island/accommodation would suit. Looking for a nice beach, nearby restaurants and a bit of luxury (but not 5star prices!) Not interested in full-moon party scene just somewhere new to chill out and relax.

(by the way we're staying in amazing accommodation on Koh Samui that we found last year when we were there...if you're looking for peace and luxury but don't want to spend a fortune try Sandalwood Villas).

Both Kho Pha Ngan and Koh Tao are amazing....If youre not so much up fot the whole full moon party thing maybe try out Bottle Beach of Chalauk Laum (sorry dont think the spelling is right!) on Koh Pha Ngan!!!Koh Tao is great also especially if you were interesting in doing a bit of diving or snorkelling!

I lived on KOH TAO for about 2 months, I’ve been 3 times in all. My friends live there, we call them lifers, as they'll probably never leave.

My friend Jeff owns choppers bar and my friend Steef who’s Dutch is the dive master at bans.

Any island questions I’m your man. i've been to every bit of it at one time or another. and stayed in 200bht a nights rooms and had a little 3000bht a night sleepin' also.

regards

Out of the three islands my fave was Koh Tao. It's so beautiful and chilled out.
Squigy - Tell your friend that I loved Choppers bar, especially the live band (can't remember the name, something about Bouys)!

Personally I found that Koh Samui was far too touristy, but it did have really nice beaches.

I agree with the above posts, Ko Tao is cool!
I've actually got a picture of choppers bar in my profile....

As for somewhere plush to stay, there is a very nice hotel on Chalok Ban Kao bay (I think thats the spelling). Anyway its on the bay where Budda View dive resort is. It's got an infinity pool, satelite tv and AC. Rooms are about £30/night including a buffet breakfast which is very good!

Choppers, it’s ok…even though I get free food, well sometimes. There are much better places to eat. I mean what’s the point of going to Asia and drinking imported Guinness and eating chicken surprise, although sometimes it’s very welcome.

Thing have changed so much on the island. Try staying at “Sun Shine” at chalok ban koa, you should be able to get a room for about 400BHT, when I went there 10 years ago you couldn’t pay more then 400bht a night anywhere and that was for a family suit, well a big shed on stilts. Now there’s talk of TV’s and AC in your rooms, if you wanted AC once you had to hang out in the Internet shop on the pier! Come on… why go away and watch BBC news or some German soap, go out… drink Chang and try NOT to crash you moped!

Watch out…

So many twats end up with Kohl Tao tattoos as a result of buckets and bikes, drive by all means, I’ve been soooooooo wasted and done it, the trick is only use 3 gear and never go over 10k’s, also wear shoes! Or get a cab, although last time I was there they wanted 200bht to ride in their pimped up Toyota trucks! You can hire a Honda dream for that…

Just a thought the island go world cup mad, so if you don’t like football stay away this June.

Also… people needing bespoke highs I know the places…

I agree bottle beach is sweet, try scoring weed of the long tail guys because there’s not much to do there, you defo need a partner to pass the time, a real place for lovers.

enjoy
