Hi all

I'm planning a trip to cambodia and want to take some decent photies
I was thinking of picking up a Cannon 350D in Bangkok..

I would buy locally in South Africa before i leave, but the prices here are exhorbitant (about USD1500)

can anybody give me a ball park figure on the cost of picking one up in Bangkok (and possibly where?) Or do you know of any websites that give prices?

I think you should get one cheaper than $1500. I have recently purchasted a Nikon 8800 and that cost me 30,000 baht, which i think is roughly $700 US. I vaguely remember seeing Canon 350D's whilst shopping and i don't think they were much more than what i paid for my Nikon. Poentip Plaza is the place to find a deal. Shop around though, my Nikon was 38,000 baht in some places and i managed to get it for 30,000.

Hi there,
The canon 350D is a great camera, but if you are into photography you might want to pay the bit extra and get a 20D or the new 30D.
The main differences are the build quality and the cosmos sensor are much better.

Hi Rob,

The Canon EOS350D kit lens is being sold here in KL for about USD900, usually a little lesser because there's a price drop recently. Cameras are tax- and duty- free in Malaysia. If it's the same in Thailand, I believe it should be priced at about the same. Anybody can confirm this?

Well, if Malaysia is one of your destinations, then consider buying the 350D here. :)

Cheers,
Hien

Hey,

Wow thats pretty expensive!, In Australia you can pick a 350D retail for $1300 AUD.

I was flying into bangcok in the hope of getting a better price!

theres only about 40-50USD difference in price.

If you're buying it in Bangkok, check out the FotoFile store on the ground level of the MBK mall. I know the place is huge, but if you find the photo store it's sure worth it :)
It's a great place for all utilities, have bought two tripods and a great camerabag there. Visit http://www.fotofile.net - but I warn you, the site isn't really good :/ When it's working you can at least view their prices.

Concerning MBK, there are a few other (but smaller) photography shops inside. Several of them aren't particularly interesting, but give it a try. With all the changes always going on, you can never be sure what to find ;)

Go to the shop called 'Bask' in Bangkok, they have 6 branches around town. The easiest one to go is in MBK and Pantip Plaza. The price I checked today is 32,900 baht (with lens), body only is 29,500 baht.

  • The currency 1 USD = 38 Baht*

Here is the picture of Pantip Plaza branch:

Fotofile sells Canon 350D + EF-s 18-55mm plus a Compact Flash Card of 1GB for 41500. Seems a reasonable price, especially with the card included...

Hi all!
I would like to buy the new ixus 800is but have not been able to find it anywhere. I've been to all the shops in MBK but they dont seem to have it. It was supposed to hit markets the begining of April.

Is there maybe an official canon reatailer in Bangkok? I would also buy the ixus 750 but with the new 800 being near I'm expecting prices to drop.

Thanks in advance
