The "latests posts" in profiles never indicate the latests posts...Is it normal?(I agree this has no importance...just curiosity...)

2. Posted by Hien (Moderator 3906 posts) 10y

Yeah, actually I've noticed this problem quite some time ago, but never really investigated or checked it with Sam or Peter at that time.

I just checked my own profile. My latest post was in the postcard thread, but it's not even listed there.

Looks like it's more of the latest threads (by the thread start date) where the member has posted before.

Not quite sure if I agree with you guys there.... Odysseas, if I take the last 5 posts on your profile page, I currently get these times as posted (in order they appear on your profile page)

16 Hours, 35 Minutes Ago
17 Hours, 17 Minutes Ago

Looks like they are ordered properly to me, or are there posts missing here? If I delete a post, the rest jump up. Am I missing something here?

4. Posted by Odysseas (Full Member 1359 posts) 10y

They are ordered by date,I don't denie it...but these five writen are not the last ones at all.For example, the haiku is fifth or sixth, while I have probably posted twenty times since the haiku one...

Sam,

Check my profile. I have a post that's pretty recent (1 day ago) in the postcard thread. And that thread is not listed at all in my profile. I believe that's because the thread was started on 27 June 2005 by Pardus and the list was sorted according to the thread start date. Since 27 June 2005 is earlier than the last in the list - 24 Feb 2006 - it doesn't get into the list at all.

Let's see the start date and date of my first post in the thread for all the threads in the list:

  • No travel insurance?
    - Start date: 9 Mar 2006 0803hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 9 Mar 2006 0803hrs on reply page (immediate reply from me!!! - but thread page says I posted 20mins later)
    - My last post: none as there's only one post from me

  • NOW WHAT!!?!! (Malaysia)
    - Start date: 6 Mar 2006 2103hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 9 Mar 2006 2103hrs on reply page (again, another immediate reply from me!!! but my reply is the 3rd one, and there's difference of about 3 days, according to the thread page)
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • Spaaaaaam
    - Start date: 8 Mar 2006 0403hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 9 Mar 2006 0603hrs on reply page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • where to shop?
    - Start date: 7 Mar 2006 2003hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 8 Mar 2006 1003hrs on reply page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • Latest posts
    - Start date: 8 Mar 0303hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 8 Mar 2006 1003hrs on reply page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JASE007!!!!!!!
    - Start date: 3 days ago on thread page; 6 Mar 2006 1503hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 6 Mar 2006 (couldn't find the time as it's been omitted up on the reply page)
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • UK passport-2008?
    - Start date: 17 Feb 2006 0322hrs on thread page; 0302hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 1 Mar 2006 2112hrs on thread page; 2103hrs on reply page
    - My last post: 2 Mar 2006 0617hrs on thread page; 0603hrs on reply page

  • To buy or not to buy cancellation insurance?
    - Start date: 28 Feb 2006 0656hrs on thread page; 0602hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 28 Feb 2006 0756hrs on thread page; 0702hrs on reply page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • Best thing to do for a date...
    - Start date: 27 Feb 2006 0619hrs on thread page; 0602hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 27 Feb 2006 0346hrs on thread page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

  • moving permanently to australia
    - Start Date: 24 Feb 2006 1442hrs in thread page; 1402hrs on reply page
    - My first post: 24 Feb 2006 1711hrs in thread page; 1702hrs on reply page
    - My last post: none - there's only one post

Looks like it's sorted descending according to my first post date. Could this be due to an incorrect ASC or DESC condition in the SQL command that causes the result to display earlier posts rather than latest posts?

The information above also revealed another error - incorrect posting times between thread page and reply page.

Another funny thing about the times on the reply page is that they are always 2 or 3 minutes into the hour.

Gotcha, it's because the system will only reveal one post per thread and is automatically selecting the first one. I'll look at this and try and fix it. I trust you're talking about the list displaying publicly, not the 'private' one where you can see your last 50 posts?

That's a 'cute' one. Same error as recently in the profile page it looks like. The 'reply' page (I assume with this you mean the page you get up when you hit reply?) is pulling the incorrect information into the minutes display. It's the month, ie all March posts show minutes as 3, all Feb posts show minutes as 02 etc. etc. Can't believe no one has ever noticed this before!!! The information is naturally still stored correctly (hence it displaying properly elsewhere) so should be an easy fix.

On that note, the only 'problem' with fixing both of these is that the code for both of these has been changed already, so the change might not be able to go live until we do the big update in a few weeks

Yup, it's the public one that I was referring to.

Here's a comparison between the public and the private.

Public (from profile page)

2. Exclusive Live Chat with Australian Migration Expert
3. Buying a camera in Bangkok
4. No travel insurance?
5. NOW WHAT!!?!! (Malaysia)
6. Spaaaaaam
7. where to shop?
8. Latest posts
9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JASE007!!!!!!!
10. UK passport-2008?

Bold - Not listed in the profile page

I think fixing it should be pretty simple. Since you've got a working one on the private page, you could just reuse part or whole of the SQL command, which I believe is the cause of the problem.

Never noticed that the minutes follow the month. My mind was too exhausted to notice any other problems after analysing the dates in the 10 threads which involved browsing forward and backwards the thread page and the reply page, comparing the dates and compile them!

On that note, the only 'problem' with fixing both of these is that the code for both of these has been changed already, so the change might not be able to go live until we do the big update in a few weeks

I can't wait for the big update to go live, although I've already seen it!

Okay, I've fixed this now and managed to find a file to put live in one go so it should be showing correctly. While looking into this I found another tiny bug that no one had noticed yet and that involved the sorting so I fixed that one too straightaway. Some older code on the profile page so it's good to have taken a look at and get cleared away!

The change with the reply time showing incorrectly won't show until the new site goes live. Pete's got the forum side of things so he'll fix that little bug
