Hector,
If by 'exciting' you mean history and culture then you might be right, but Australia is exciting for it's own good reasons.
Perth is constantly described as one of the best cities in the world to live in, despite its isolation.
There are some cool places nearby too, and the Aussies themselves are very chilled.

Hector,
Depends on what your preferences are, most Germans I have met love the outback & vastness of Oz. If you are the same, that time of year will be excellent up north. Broome, The Kimberleys, Gekie Gorge, Bungle Bungles etc. - isolation, great scenery & atmosphere.;)

It depends on what you would like to do, partying/clubbing, history, beautiful places to see.

But If you'd like a general tour around Perth metro area goto..

Fremantle
Really nice cafe strips and markets etc.
Also alot of maritime history
Subiaco
More of a upper class area but very nice

Scarborough and Cottesloe
Beautiful beaches and lots of sunshine

Northbridge at night
Pretty much the center of Perths clubbing scene

Perth city
Great place to shop and see at night

Kings Park
Beautiful place to see, great bush walks and very pretty at night.
Lots of history

That is just scraping the surface. So yeah have a look a those places and if you need anymore information I can get you pictures of the locations and websites too look at etc.

Don't forget the Southwest of WA as well - there are some great wineries and wicked beaches and surf there. Right at the bottom is Esperence and the Tree top walk in Walpole
Then there are the Pinnacles just outside Perth which are worth a look at - very strange!! Then there's Kalgoolie about 3 hours from Perth and is a very odd town to go and visit!

Further up the coast is the Bungle Bungles and Broome which goes off if you get there at the right time (which is the dry season!) There is also Kalbarri National park which is gorgeous, Monkey Mia with the dolphins and Coral Bay where you can go snorkelling aloong the reefs for $5 a day!

So much to do!!!
