Hello All!

I will be studying in Rome for 1 month in June. I am able to take 4 weekend trips (Fri-sun) and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on good spots for weekend trips in southern Italy. I would prefer spots by the sea.

Also would I be able to get direct flights from Rome to Capri, Sardegna, etc. and what airlines would I use? As I am a student, budget is tight! Would appreciate any suggestions, first trip to Italy!

hy! capri is not too far from rome, you can reach by train+ferry.(direction Naples). You can also visit Ischia island, very close to Capri.[there's no airport in capri, it is a small island)

Other idea:visiting the POntine islands (ponza..) reachable by train+ferry(from Formia if I remember) , I suppose they are cheaper than capri, and closer to rome.

Going from rome to the north you can reach in 2 hours by train Argentario area in Tuscany, but is quite expensive to be honest.
More northern (train rome to piombino, than ferry) you can reach Elba island, which in june maybe is still not too expensive).

for what concern low cost flights:
rome ciampino- alghero (sardinia) with ryanair
rome ciampino -palermo/catania (sicily) with airone and windjet
or rome barcelona (spain) with vueling
rome valencia (spain) with ryanair

in any case you need to reserve now to have the possibility to find good offers.

you can also check, when you will arrive, the last minute trains offers (10eur): maybe you find a train to the south very cheap, but be aware that the journey is long (if you want to reach Calabria or Sicily it could be up than 13 hours).

As for accomodation, June should be low season (at least until mid june), you can also find in last minute web sites to check if there are good offers to seaside locations.

I know the following web sites, but they're in italian..

the cheaper beaches are Ostia and Fregene, beaches where Romans go during week ends: noisy and crowded of every kind of people..but very close to the city!:) [if you don't find anything better..]:)
Ostia has a good nightlife.

hell jessie, i'd suggest you to watch all the amalfi coast, esp vietri sul mare, ravello, positano, amalfi, salerno and sorrento, all in that area, maybe taking a cultural excursion to pompeii and herculanum

southern italy is beautiful, landscapes, relaxed lifestyle, food, sun, infinite beaches- you'll like it
