No travel insurance?

Travel Forums General Talk No travel insurance?

Would I be a complete moron to go on a 3 month trip without travel insurance? All the quotes i'm getting are like 4-500 dollars, and I can't afford that. Anyone have suggestions on cheap but decent travel insurance companies? I have investigated the insurance offered here on TP, but it seems like it is mostly geared for UK citizens, and I am an American. But it does seem to be one of the cheaper ones.

So going without travel insurance...crazy?

Hmm... I think you tried the wrong one. You clicked on Travel Insurance on the left bar instead of going to Tools (top menu) -> Cheap Travel Insurance.

I tried to get an online quotation from there( and this is what I got for a USA citizen travelling worldwide for 3 months.

Your quote and policy benefits:

Start date: March 25, 2006
End date: June 24, 2006
Destinations: Worldwide (All international travel outside the USA)
Type: Single
Age limit: 61
Underwritten by: BCS Insurance Company
Price: USD $158

We get couples annual travel insurance with winter sports for around £70 each year. Its totally worth it - never had to use it but when we travel outside Europe (which is usually always) medical health care is covered so its a great reassurance.

And it covers for theft etc which is good as we always take a camcorder, digital cameras and ipods etc - which l would hate to loose so at least we would get something back.

Just checked the policy quotes - great competitive prices max for platinum cover £55 per person with a max travel period 90 days & winter sports.

Try WorldNomads. They're quite reasonable, I think.

If you do go without insurance just be prepared to be in debt for the rest of your lfe if something tragic happens. Otherwise you'll be fine.

Going away for three months without any travel insurance is very very risky (and quite stupid). Seeking good medical help is expensive, if you want a decent doctor you have to pay! I find, that usually I earn back the money spent on travel insurance, you can never be too safe when you're in a tropical environment! Buy the travel insurance!!!
