basically in the few days when im not on the tour i just need some advice for money for accom / food and fun if anybody could give me advice and what i really have to see in each city as i am travelling on my own for the first time and on a budget
You shoud feasibly see everything in San Fran in 2 days as long as you dont let jet lag get to you!!
Grab a cable car, go to fishermans wharf wander along see the sealions, eat some seafood chowder in a sourdough bowl from one of the vendors, if you wanna (PRE BOOK) go to Alcatraz get boat from fishermans wharf. Head into cannery - grab some Ghiradelli chocolate (DELICIOUS) - grab a bus up to the golden gate bridge and walk across it (this could take a morning or afternoon), the cable cars to through Chinatown jump off and take a wander - theres is a fortune cookie factory in one of the back streets where you can watch them being made; have cheese cake on the top floor of Macys, head up to Castro and see the colourful inhabitants - everyone is welcome and lovely no matter what persuasion you are!! Watch cars wind down Lombard Street - head up to Golden Gate Park and see the lovely Japenese Garden.
We stayed at the San Fran Hilton which was great location and a decent hotel but lm not sure about budgets!
Now l cant help with LA never visited!!
You can definitely do enough in LA- but depending on where you stay, you will need a car. I would do a few hours in Hollywood seeing the usual sites, Mann Chinese Theater, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, Beverly Hills (Rodeo Dr.etc.)and Griffith Park.
Then head to the beach towns- Santa Monica, and Venice- plenty to do here if you stay on main street in Santa monica you can walk to pretty much everything, including the beach. Right now the weather is not so great, its raining but you can still have fun. Great vibe, and cool bars, restaurants, shopping and nightlife.
Hope this helps!
