IF you really want to see australia the best zoo in aus is actually Western Plain Zoo in dubbo. Its about 5 hours west of sydney so you can get out and see real aussie outback peoples.
I live in sydney and i tell you its a great experience.
Plus the zoo is massive. you can drive around in it, or hire a bike. but you might not see it all in a day.
So no animals in cages, all out in the open
sydney zoo is a little depressing, in a country with so much space they sure do seem to have tiny little cages. melbourne zoo is better in that regard but in my opinion Dubbo zoo is the best there are no fences and it's really well landscaped and the animals look pretty cheery. but i guess dubbo is a bit outta the way. adelaide zoo is cool too if you are going to south australia, they have mongolian wild horses
If I have to chose one, I'd pick Melbourne zoo. It was more enjoyable to me. Sydney zoo wasn't bad, though.
I would say Taronga Zoo also, mainly for the amazing view. Melbourne Zoo is a little more tucked away. But if you were to talk aquariums.... Melbourne has a far better one than Sydney`s
Thanks for your points.
Wonder whether Melbourne aquariums is must go and see? I have been to aquariums in Hong Kong, Singapore, Auckland, is Melbourne Aquariums quiet similar as the others or extremely good?
if you have time, visit the werribee open range zoo.
the animals are in the open and you hop on a bus and it drives around them...etc.
bit like an african safari.
id check up on the websites.
GO TO MELBOURNE ZOO IT RULZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I"VE BEEN THERE TONS OF TIMES AND I NEVER GET BORED.
Can I throw a spanner into the works and suggest the zoo of the "Crikey" man himself, Australia zoo. A classic little place. Just as a comparison, the elephants at Australia zoo look far happier than the poor buggers standing on the concrete at Taronga and there are enough australiana critters to keep anyone happy.
P.S. Sorry for not answering the question
