Hi, I am a fit active 67 yr old scuba diver. I want to spend 4/5 weeks in AU doing some diving and seeing as much as possible of typical AU, mainly the non-tourist places. I want to travel by air/car to see as much as possible, starting from Cairns. I would like to book hotels and tours (where necessary) whilst in AU to enable me to change plans/route if necessary. I would appreciate a suggested route to take and any pitfalls to look out for. If anyone reads this and is looking for a travel companion, look no further!
Many thanks in advance.
Travelling the East coast is fairly straightforward. From Cairns to Sydney you'll be spoilt for choice of diving spots. One of the only pitfalls that comes to mind is underestimating the time it takes between places. Its 2870klms between Sydney and Cairns so that gives you some idea of what to expect, and some of the roads are very long and boring with not much in between.
Thanks majito - I do appreciate the distances involved and where possible I would fly from place to place if there was not much of interest between.
I am currently looking at this web page which offers a variety of packages. Even if I don't use the company, it will give me a list of place not to miss. http://www.travelmood.com/site/australia/OZintro/OZintro.asp
If anyone can suggest a list of places 'not to miss' I would be most gratefull. The distances and time involved will not matter as I can choose from the suggestions and fly when necessary.
