Hi,
I have a couple of days to travel around Spain in May, and would like to ask what you recommend about renting a car in Barcelona and travel around there.
Do you recommend any accommodation or other way to travel around there that week?

Here is a suggestion: go the www.virtourist.com and click on Europe, then Spain, then Catalonia. It offers a nice slide show of 6 destinations close to Barcelona (and pictures of Barcelona). It might give you an idea of where you would like to spend a few days. I have been to Sitges many times. It is a very nice seaside town 40km south of Barcelona and accessible by train from Estacio Sants.

I've travelled across all Catalonia. Basically i stayed in lloret de Mar and Calella. But i went to Palamos in the north, Platya de Aro and other small cities near Barcelona.

I must say the most lively place is for sure Lloret, it has also a long and rather wide beach, plus a lot of clubs, bars where you can have cheap sangria and meet new friends.

I suggest you to go there, even because i don't know how other places will be populated in that period of the year. if you look for a more quiet place with a few bars, Platya de Aro is good. Palamos is the quietst one i've been with nice restaurants but not much to do after midnight if not enjoying a walk and a good atmosphere.

Calella was also nice, it's a small city with huge beaches and quite a few clubs.

I think you'll cope very well with a car, the roads are not crowded and easy to follow.
