Going to OZ in June with my boyfriend. Need to open a bank account for when we go, what's the best website to go on for this? and do i just need to open the one bank account for the both of us or is it best to open two seperate ones? and can you start transferring money in to this account straight away?
So many questions, :o)
I’m not sure if you can open up a bank account from overseas on line. Usually when you open an account you need to supply the bank with personal details, which include: identification, a billing address, telephone number etc…
If I were you, I would hang on to your money until you get here then open an account from here. You will be able to transfer your money via the net or by telephone once your account is open!
Here are a few websites that might help you out. (Commonweath Bank and Westpac Bank) You should be able to email them and have them advise you on what you should do
You can open an account with ANZ online, and transfer money. Sort of online. You download the forms from www.anz.com look for the access advantage account for students or go here http://www.anz.com/aus/promo/internresaccount/img1/h_openAccountNonRes.gif
Basically you sign the form and send it back. They contact you and give you instructions on how to transfer the money. The final step in getting your paws on your money is to go to the bank and complete an ID check.
You could also use the Citibank traveller account. Google it. This can be opened online and you can transfer online.
Sorry, that URL is http://www.anz.com/aus/promo/internresaccount/ Not the previously mentioned one.
I opened my account when i got here, i was going to do it before-but it isnt really that necessary, it doesnt take long at all.
I am with commonwealth as they are supposed to have the best rates for backpackers.
I've just arrived in Sydney myself and tomorrow I will be opening a bank account. I've heard that National or ANZ are the best and have the most ATM's.
Thanx for the replies on this. Very helpful.
Still checking out some websites. Has anyone used CitiBank at all? Thinking of opening one with them, they have a travellers account.
