Hi

There is no border as such from Morocco proper to the former Western Sahara. There are numerous Police and Gendarme checkpoints, but nothing more. Buses and Grand taxis should provide decent transport.

If you are crossing the border into Mauritania, you should expect a wait. I haven't done this myself (yet), but it takes a while. You can now travel north and south overland; this used not to be the case.

hi markwillen,
what do u mean by "takes a while" on the border to mauritania? how long is it? then, do u know about crossing from mauritania into mali?
and, is it easy to do it by ur own means of transport instead?
thanx a lot

Hi

I've heard estimates ranging from a day or two to a week. Surely someone out there has done this?

I'd certainly feel more comfortable in my own transport; some of the local vehicles are extremely tired, bald tyres, etc.

I'm sorry, haven't a clue about the Mauretania/Mali border. Sounds fun though, I must get round to it soon!
