Hi I'm making a trip this summer to Vienna and Bratislava and after looking at a map I figured that it won't take very long to travel between the two cities so I was wondering if it makes more sense to just stay in Vienna for twice as long and make Bratislava a day trip? Am I underestimating how long it takes to go between the two cities here or is there a lot in Bratislava that I'd miss out on? Any help would be appreciated.

I'v never been to Bratislava as a tourist so I can't tell you very much about the touristic highlights of the city. What I can suggest is instead of taking a car/bus/train from Vienna to Bratislava is taking a boat. The area is very beautifull and a trip on the river is allways nice.

Check this website for more information http://www.twincityliner.com/english/index.shtml, It's not the cheapest options, but it's a nice trip on the "Schöne Blaue Donau".

I've been to Bratislava and sat by the river, I think it would be lovely to go there from Vienna by boat. Think it was only an hour or two on the train (?). You could cover Bratislava in a day or two easily. There's not tons of things to do but i thought the castle was nice and just strolling around really, having a drink and some food.

Hi all,

Any clue on traveling from Bratislava to Budapest?
Are there any overnight journey for either boat, train, or coach?
I heard that train journey takes only 2.5 hrs from Bratis to Buda.
Please help.

Cheers,
Nick

Train is about three hours, and if you think of it, a nighttrain that only last three hours, is not much use. (get on the train at 2.00 am, and off at 5.00 ??). Just leave Bratislava early, so you have the whole afternoon to spend in Budapest.

If there is a kind of a ferry between them I really don't know.

Hi

@Craigbump:
I hope it is not too late to answer your question. I can tell you that it will take you 50 min max. with the car to go from Bratislava to Vienna.

@kody:
By car it will take you 2:15 hrs to go to Budapest from Bratislava - that's all I know.
