hi there - not sure if nyone can help me. Am travelling round NZ, OZ, thailand, malaysia and bali and am looking for a discount card that gives you money off accommodation, etc. I have been researching a little and there is a card called YHA NZ - which looks pretty good - but if anyone knows of the most popular one used and accepted - i would be really grateful
cheers

Different hostels belong to different organizations/networks, each with their own card. YHA is part of Hostelling International (HI), the largest such organization (they're really worldwide), and you can't really go wrong with them. YHA hostels attract a more quiet crowd though, which might be exactly what you're looking for when you want a night's rest, or you might prefer a more party-oriented crowd, in which case you'd go with VIP, which has almost as many hostels in most countries. YHA membership gives about twice as much discount on hostels, but most YHA hostels are slightky more expensive to begin with, so that works out to be pretty much the same.
Outside of the discounts on hostels, they both have different agreements with other organizations for discounts, but it's the difference between 10% discount at this camping store, versus 10% discount at that other one. Transport companies generally provide discounts to everyone having a backpacker card, doesn't matter which one.

Would that include an ISIC card?

From what I've seen in Australia and New Zealand - yes, it would.
