I tell you, wish Id taken a photo of this guy, he was a corker!!!He had these smart little tan coloured loafers on and his hair all slicked back, there was something about his clothes and the phrase "come with me to the discotheque" which made me laugh sooooo much!!!

He probably had a sock down his trousers!

I’m not married, either. I’ve had the opportunity several times, but I never took it. That said, I really love women. It’s always been a bit of a regret, for me, being single. It’s particularly awkward on vacations. People are suspicious of single men on vacation, after they get to a certain age: they assume that they’re selfish, and probably a bit pervy. I can’t say they’re wrong.

I read this book while I was traveling and found this quote kind of funny. I was only 27 at the time, but surrounded by a bunch of "gap year" travelers in Australia.

I tend to find old men attractive, that is, in the intellectual level. I just love to listen to their story, how they get through their years. of course, they have to look and smell good.

I dont know what it is about this world trip, but I have met so many old people. Now I have nothing against older people at all, I often find their stories and tips very helpful...but I have to say that I have got to THAT age where old men make passes at me!!!

Its quite grim really....these guys have all been older than my father...

I have vowed now not to speak to any man travelling alone over the age of 45 yrs old now....

Where are the virile, tall, younger men...? 28+ will suit me fine

At what age do you consider someone old? I'm not being sarcastic - it's an honest question. (And I'm afraid the 28 with the "+" after it does put old/older men in the running... But, I do know what you are actually saying.)

To answer a question... You probably didn't do anything to attract their attention other than exist, walk past them, and possibly enter into conversation. In their minds, and at their age (whatever that may be), there is no harm in asking if you may be interested in a tryst. What have they got to lose? Maybe someone will say yes... If they are a widower or long-time divorcee, chnaces are they are lonely and more interested in a woman's company rather than the sex itself. But, if they have a chance of "getting lucky", that's a plus.

When I was younger (because I probably fall into that old/older catagory at this point in my life myself), I found kind humor about their proposals usually shut down the conversation or I would change it to something more interesting to me. The person would always give it one last shot, but always realized that it was wishful thinking on their behalf. Diffuse the sexual innuendo (or outright proposals) with grace, humor and questions about their life experiences. More often than not, they would rather talk about anything/everything than follow through on their propositions. (Can't blame a guy for trying, no matter what their age...)

Loubylou.....I bet your boyfriend is sooooo upset at women making eyes at him. I bet he cries all over his Cosmo magazine and silk sheets every night over it.

Never met a man in my life who in the company of other men would so demean himself as to admit to being upset at the advances of a woman.

Utter rubbish.

And Clanger, how precious you are. Enjoy your radiant youth. In just another few years these bad old men will all stop looking at you so then you'll really have something to complain about.

I'm not saying that he's upset at getting the attention, he's just freaked out why suddenly the women looking at him are a lot older than they used to be. Curiosity that's all. Actually he has said to his friends that it freaks him out, they all seem to understand...maybe it's a British thing? and he hates Cosmo :) and we don't have silk sheets! Yes I agree any man likes female attention...BUT even when that woman is old enough to be your mother? the same goes for women, if a man who is old enough to be your dad OR who is significantly older than you is giving you attention it can be a little disturbing.

no need to be like that now! she was only making a simple comment that older men seem to make a beeline for her which everyone else seems to have understood!

Maybe your boyfriend has to stop wearing cardigans and then the old boilers will stop looking at him

Although it's becoming more common, my boyfriend (bless!) is getting annoyed with 40 plus women trying to come onto him.

Ouch! I can relate to your boyfriend. This happened to me and some of my mates last Saturday night at a pub. We're all in our late 20's early 30's and this woman of about 45 just sits there on the table opposite us all night trying to see which one of us was up for a bit of fun. She tried to get into conversation with all of us giving us each a glance like "you can have me tonight if you like"

I wasn't in the least bit interested. None of my mates were either. So my mates and I started a loud conversation about picking up younger girls and she was so offended she left the pub 2 minutes later.
