Ferries run twice a day from Phuket from Ao Po pier, one is at 8:30am, the other 2:30pm. I think the cost is around 400 baht one way. Coming the opposite way I think it's 9:30am and 3:30pm. All tour places in Phuket have the times if you need them and most include a transfer to the port in for that price.

As to the cheap accommodation did you want Phi Phi or Phuket?

There are many ferry companies having trip from Phuket to Phi Phi, and the prices are vary. You can find from 200-450 baht for one way and some are cheaper if you buy return ticket.
But the pier for each company is different, so you better check with your hotel or travel agency on which pier you ferry will leave from.

Phi Phi didn't seem to have that many budget options for accomadation when I went there earlier this month. There were bungalows for around 400 baht, I think that was the cheapest I saw, but looked like bit of a trek to get there & they seemed really basic. Also there seemed to be a lot of rubbish dumped around.

Cheap accomodation-

There's a place called Gypsy Village on PhiPhi that has cheap bungalows. When I was there they were 300 (March 05 and Oct 05) but they'll probably be 400 now. Basic but good and well-located.

From the ferry pier, if you keep walking along the path by the beach towards Hippies Bar, then follow the road round past the mosque, and keep going, you'll find them. Its not far to walk. If you keep walking past them, there is also more cheap bungalows.

Accomodation gets cheaper as you go inland more, from the ferry pier towards the viewpoint on the hill, there is a cluster of guesthouse type places. Its not the best location though, and there may still be rubbish and building materials piled around. There is one place with what looks like a big boat at the front, and it has a dorm.
