Wow You are going to be there for a good month!

Lucky you. What tour are you going on if you don't mind me asking again. I'm trying to gather up as much resource as possible so I can maximize my time there.

Well its just on 3 weeks actually, we couldn't get any extra time off work. But the first 2 weeks will be on the Cosmos Best Of Italy tour (code 6390). This starts & ends in Rome with 2 night stops at the main cities (Rome, Florence, Lakes area, Venice, Perugia down to Sorrento).
By the time this is over, we should be tuned into the Italian lifestyle & should be able to comfortably manage the last week in Rome.

In Rome, we have booked our accomodation & the Scavi tour and plan to arrange trips once we are in Italy. We will most probably do some of these on our own. The day and 1/2 day trips (at this stage) will be Tivoli, Ostia Antica and Appia Antica.

Of course, we will be seeing, experiencinng & absorbing the sights and culture of Roman life - including the cuisine and vino (rosso) & cheese & grappa & proscutto (sp). We are laid back travellers so will take our time and try not to cover too much territory but maximise each experience - we can always return.

Thanks must go to amanecer who has provided good information on TP.
Cheers

Regardless, good luck with your trip! I may bump into you! Lol.

If by some chance you are unsuccessful, go to the Scavi office at the vatican when you get to Rome, see if there are any cancellations.
If you get onto the tour 21st April at 1:15 we'll see you there.
8 more sleeps

Hehehe....

I looked at your "tour itinerary" so to speak. Looked at hours travelling between locations. Wow...that's a lot of hours....

Rome to Venice alone is 6 hours. I'm curious what I'm still going to do.

Right now, all I have planned out is Rome. From there I may wing it and ask around here a bit more to find out what is a more feasable way to go about it.

What I definately want to do is the following:

Rome
Venice
Pompeii
Florence
Tuscany
Cinque Terra
Pisa

The question is now, in which order is the most efficient and what method of transporation....ending back in Rome.

Nutsnbolts,
Not quite related to the Scavi Payment title of the thread but FYI, this is the map of our route. The trip starts / ends in Rome it is Cosmos 'Best Of Italy' (Code 6390). Of course we will be in a bus - not flying.

http://www.cosmostours.com.au/2002/tours/images/maps/2006/AUMAP6390.jpg

What appealed is the free time, optional excursions and the fact there are 2 night stays in all but one location (Perugia).

Due to time constraints we wanted to get an appreciation of Italy then spend 1 week in Rome. We plan to return Italy (& Europe) in the near future and do it on our own.

I believe that Pisa is worth the visit for the obvious reason but not stay in the town, do it passing through or a trip from say Florence.
Have you considered Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast (including Ravello) and Capri, they are close to each other and near Pompeii?

Cheers

maba:

I did look at that route. Got some ideas from it. It hits pompeii/amalfi area and some of the areas in the north that my wife and I would like to definately visit.

Hmm Assisi, Ravena, I'm not sure of those locations. I don't know much about it.
