Just joined the forum and it seems super helpful. So, I wanted to post a few questions about traveling SE Asia this fall.
My itenerary is tentatively:
Aug. 22-30 Travel to Beijing and site seeing in China
Hike a section of the Great Wall
Sept. 1-7 Kayaking in Hanoi
Sept. 7-10 Trekking in Laos or Vietnam
Sept 11-12 Travel down the Mekong River through Laos
Sept. 13-16 Travel to/Explore Ho Chi Minh (Maybe)
Sept. 17-30 Travel through Cambodia to Bangkok
Bike from Phnom Phen to Angkor Wat
Volunteer at an Orphanage??
Bike/bus from Angkor Wat to Bangkok
Oct. 1-14/21 Travel to Nepal/Burmah/other for Volunteer Trip
Oct 15/21-30 Climbing/Kayaking/Etc. in Krabi Area
Nov. 1-7 Kuala Lumpur (Maybe)
Nov 8-14 Jungle Trekking in Borneo
Nov. 15 Return to Bangkok
Nov. 16 Fly home
So here are my questions:
1. Are there any forseeable issues with the weather?
2. Any suggestions for tour guides? Especially:
-Hiking a section of the Great Wall near Beijing or Xian
-Traveling down the Mekong River
-Biking from Cambodia to Bangkok
3. Any suggestions for volunteer organizations? Especially:
-Charity bike rides in SE Asia in September
-Volunteer work involving trekking to remote villages in Nepal,
Buhtan, Tibet, or elsewhere and offering aid
4. Where might I find good deals on flights to Borneo from either Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok?
5. Any safety concerns I might want to consider?
I'm going to hopefully be traveling with a few friends, and we'd like to keep the trip as cheap as possible, so any advice for budget travel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton for any help you might be able to offer!! -katie :D
Also, if you live in any of these areas and sometimes offer tour guide services, please let me know. Or if you have any suggestions about really affordable places to stay I'd love to hear them. Thanks again!
