Hey, where do you think the best hostel is to stay at in Sydney? I heard the base is quite good. True?

Depends on what kind of thing you're looking for. Bases are too party oriented for my tastes, although with most of them being brand spanking new, they're usually near perfect with facilities.
In Sydney I prefer Glebe Point YHA, but that has most to do with the neighbourhood (Glebe, the most relaxed bohemian neighbourhood 10 minutes away from the CBD you'll ever see), and less with the hostel (although the hostel still is superb - especially its rooftop area with hammocks and barbecues).

Another hostel that gets mentioned here all the time is Wakeup, which is right next to central station.

There's many excellent hostels in Sydney each of them with a different appeal to different people: Wake-Up is shiny and new with a bar, but it sleeps 500 people and its on one of the busiest intersections in Australia. Surfside is at the beach. You get to wake up and wander down for a swim every morning and hang out in a very chilled environment. Glebe YHA is excellent: bit of harbour, lots of cafes, laid back area, and plenty of private space. They're all busy and all full of like-minded people coming and going at a mad pace.

The most unsociable hostels I have found are those full of people who have been staying there for ages and think they own the place. They are working or just not moving on and they tend to treat new arrivals with disdain. The managers or staff are usually backpackers themselves and also think they're better than the new arrivals. Place like Glebe YHA or WAKE-UP occasionally have a few long termers, but excellent management and treat everyone very well and encourage everyone to mix.
