Hi all

Im going to Chile, Argentina and Brazil for two months at the end of the year and was wondering what sort of money i will need to get by on per day for each country? I heard it is cheap but cant find out how much i will need for transport accomodation etc?

Any suggestions would be superb?

Cheers

In 2003, I spent around $US 40 a day in Chile and Argentina. That included bus transport between towns, hotels (room with ensuite bath), food, drink and miscellaneous expenses.

Cheers for the reply Greg.

Thats really helpful. Any tips of where to go in either country. Me and my girlfriend will be flying in to Santiago and then Buenos Aires. We will probably have about three weeks in total. I know its not long but it is at the end of our trip and we probably wont have a great deal of cash left.

Thanks

Adrian

Are you flying from Santiago to B.A.? In three weeks, you could probably take a coach - maybe split it into 3 different legs. The total trip is around 30 hours, but if you did it in a few different legs, that'd be doable.

Around Santiago:

  • Some beach time by the Pacific ocean at Vina Del Mar or Valparaiso
  • Tour of a winery in the maipo valley

Crossing the Andes, you could stop in Mendoza and do some hiking (depending on time of the year) or skiing.

In 3 weeks, you could also head south to Patagonia, assuming you were willing to fly back from Patagonia to Buenos Aires. I flew from Rio Gallegos to Buenos Aires for around $US 150 one-way.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea.We are actually flying into Santiago - B.A.- Sau Paulo. We were hoping to see the Andes too. Internal flights sound good but it just depends on our cash situation. We will have to wait and see.

Cheers for the help
