I stayed there last year while i was in sydney and i stayed one night when i arrived here ths year. I would have stayed there prob, but i'm living in an apartment just outside the city.

It is a great little place, you meet loads of people, bathrooms are very clean, rooms are (depending on who your sharing with!)

I find them pretty cheap as well. The only thing i dont like is the kitchen-its very small for the amount of people staying and the equipment when i was there wasnt all that, but i would recommend it for sure.

Go for it. Its in a great location as well...i could go on. very comfy, easy to make yourself feel at home.

Well, I wouldn't call it 'little' with 550 odd beds :) But it is a great place! I stayed there 3 years ago and enjoyed it (double room, their dorms are nice too though). The YHA right around the corner (also stayed there, but that's about 7 years ago now (ouch, getting old)) is pretty good too. Both are about a minutes walk from Central station which is handy and close to Darling Harbour and Glebe with good nightlife. Buses go from around the corner to Bondi/Coogee and the Sydney Harbour (or you can walk to the harbour up George street which is probably one of my favourite city walks). Personally I prefer this area when just travelling through Sydney, but others might disagree and either like something more central or something directly on the beach....

Just to clarify as that could be confusing for those that have never been there. The CBD (central business district) is about 5/10 minutes walk up george street (another 5/10 will get you to the harbour), so that's what I'm referring to with being more 'central'. In terms of Sydney as a whole and the things that travellers are generally after, Central Station (where Wake up and the YHA are at) is actually more central (when seen in a type of circle including Bondi/Coogee/Glebe/The harbour etc). Does that make sense?

I'm lining in one of the apartments in coogee.

Personally i really like staying in the city, but coogee is a bus ride away. Coogee is a great little place, it really is. I want to move to sydney and would prob choose a place like coogee. The beach is right on the doorstop-2min walk-right in front of you. Its nice if you like to get up and have a swim, saves you getting a bus or ferry to a beach etc, etc.-soooo much less hassle. There is everything you need, shop wise. cinema and more shops in randwick-only a 30min walk.

There's a bit of a nightlife here as well-the whole pub thing. there's the coogee bay hotel (tho i havent been here for a night out yet!)

There always seems to be a lot of people about from the hostels so i'd say your still going to meet a fair few people.

Good luck in deciding. You can always book a couple of nights and then move on if you decide. There's always a way to change things!

I also enjoyed wake up. I stayed at footprints my first couple nights in sydney and do not recommend it. Moved to the YHA which was great, met the people I traveled with there, but it was expensive. When I got back to Sydney I stayed at wake up and wished I had stayed there to begin with. Decent prices and good atmosphere and you meet lots of people.

Never mind, it was the Maze I stayed in not Wake Up. Easy to start mixing all the hostels up. Anyways I highly recommend the Maze
