We are planning on spending a few months visiting Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. was just wondering which way round it is best to go; I have heard some people say go from Bangkok to the Cambodian border then bus from Phnom Penh to Vietnam and then Laos last, but others say its best to enter Laos via northern Thailand and then go on from there. also do you still have to specify your entry date to Vietnam when applying for your visa?

I have done the trip; Pattaya-Koh Kong-Sihanoukville-Phnom Penh-Saigon-Hanoi. I have also flown to Hanoi and went back to Pattaya via bus/boat. Never been to Laos. You can head for Laos from Ninh Binh, south of Hanoi. You will want to see Angkor Wat, so I would go BKK-Siem Reap-PP-Saigon.

VN Visa;
Yes, you tell them the date you want to enter VN when you get your visa. The clock starts on that date, not when you enter. Phnom Penh is probably the cheapest and fastest place to get your VN visa. One day at about $30. PM me if you details on any part of Thailand, Cam. VN.
