I've got 2 weeks free beginning on the 1st of august and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me of where is best to go time economy wise, werecan I get alot out of 2 weeks without having to spend long periods travelling, looking for any type of adventure really, cultural, landscape, also i'm looking to keep it reasonably cheap, probably £2k is my threshold at a push, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance Kye

Look into Thailand. The hotels are real cheap compared to Europe. Food and transportation is cheap. Tourist friendly - the government wants it's tourists happy so that they return again and again.

Pick up a Lonely Planet Travel Guide and read up before you go. The Asia board can give you some answers to any questions that come up.

When ever you check for prices on the internet try a few days before and a few days after your desired departure date - prices can change significantly. Avoid weekends, holidays or Friday departures - they are usually higher priced.

No prior visor required for Thailand for stays of less than 30 days. The cost of hotels in Thailand are so cheap compared to Europe that you might end up with a trip that would cost the same as a quick jaunt over the channel to France or Germany.

You could definately do Thailand maybe one or two centre - but watch as in August can be the rain season. Try looking into Chang Mai or Chang Rai (Golden Triangle area)where you can trek into the jungle. I loved the Phuket area but as long as you dont mind getting wet the islands are lovely!

I would certainly recommend China if you are really into the cultural stuff and have never had the exposure before. Big cities like BeiJing, Shanghai and their surrounding area are nice places to visit. Not to mention those famous landmarks such as the Great Wall. Food, accommodations and transportations are cheap. International flight tickets could be a bit expensive though in August.

Thailand in August, in my opinion, is too hot for most people. But on the other hand, you can enjoy quite a bit there. Relaxing on the beach, massaging, water sports, temples, night life... are all great things to explore.

Ofcourse countrys in Asia are fantastic to go to and if you are there also very cheap. If you fly from England you still have to pay quit a high price for the plane ticket.

Another closer option are the baltics (lithounia, latvia, estonia) where the prices are also cheap compared to England and you only need half of the 2k for 2 fantastic weeks.
