On 28/03/2006, Ho chi minh city (Vietnam) began to form a security group, consisting 108 people, to protect tourist. They will patrol from 8:00 AM to 23:00 PM in Le Loi street, Nguyen Hue street, Dong khoi street, the Theatre area, ben Thanh market, Backpacker area (Pham Ngu Lao street, De Tham street, Bui vien street ) to keep tourist from bothering or disturbing by the street vendors or beggars , criminals, robbers ... Now , when u come to this city, u will feel better and safer.
Wish u have many wonderful moments in this city
was it really bad before??
just wondering cos im headin there in june! :o)
Nah, I spent about a fortnight there in early December and I didnt have any problems at all, even late at night. Well, apart from a bit of a weird bloke following me around Ben Thanh market that is.....just make sure you dont flaunt your valuables and you will be fine.
I just returned from a month in VN and felt safer there than Las Vegas. However, I did not spend much time in HCMC as I have been there twice before. I am glad to see that the VN authorities are addressing a potential problem and taking action. Nothing will slow tourism faster than violent crime being associated with your city.
