Currently saving for a solo adventure to Australia in January of 2007. I will be traveling for a month or so between New Zealand and Australia but also looking to settle down in Sydney or Melbourne for 3-6 months, or maybe for a life-time. Please offer any advice or information with regards to living/working/leisure, or any other exciting subjects worth discussing about. Thanks...Wade 23 USA.

you will have a blast if you love adventure sports NZ and Australia is the place to go.
melb is a bit more laid back than sydney. forget anythign you saw on the news about the riots in correnalla about aussies being rasist.
and if you enjoy surfing see the east coast.
you will find work easily enough australia is one of those places if you want to work there is always a job.

What about soccer and rugby? Are their any stadiums in the area of Sydney?

Rugby is very popular in that part of the country. While Aussie Rules Football is the dominant sport in Melbourne.

Soccer is growing in popularity in Australia - we have a brand new professional league with good crowds and the national team just made the World Cup for the first time in decades, much to the joy of the entire country. Sydney FC recently won the inaugural A-league and get fantastic crowds to their matches. Though personally, I would suggest you become a Melbourne Victory fan instead and settle here ;) You can come with me to the games if you like We get very good crowds also - particularly when you consider our poor performance this last season.

Nice forum, good that I found it! I'll be off to Melbourne all by myself(from the Philippines) couple of weeks from now, and is looking for a place to stay temporarily when I get there; a cheap one as I am on a limited budget. This is my first time to go to Australia, know nobody hehehe. Can someone refer a place to stay, and a company perhaps?
