I'm looking to plan a trip for new years to either Copacabana or Ipanema. I was wondering what you all recommend. Should i stay hotel or rent an apartment for the week? What area is nicer, where can I have the most fun, etc? Most tourists go to Copa, correct? I noticed all hotels are already booked for new years and the carnival, is this possible? Do that many people go? I'm just trying to go with some frriends, party it up and sit on the beach. What do you recommend?
Copacabana is like Hollywood, famous and crappy. Ipanema is like Beverly Hills. Smart people go to Leme, Leblon or maybe Santa Teresa (the last would be my choice, if you want to know). Apartments will give you more privacy, but don´t expect services like in hotels.
During Carnival we receive about 500.000 foreigners here in one week. About 400.000 during New Year in one week only. The rest of the year, 1.400.000 persons.
Prices are 4 times more expensive during New Year and Carnival - and it worths all the money!
I can provide lots of services. I manage some great apartments, and can make airport pickup and tours. Check my webpage www.ridearoundrio.com.
Hope it helps,
Planning on being in Rio for Carnival so let me know how you go re: accomodation.
I have been told you need to book really far in advance.
Yea, I gotta agree with Thespis. I had a much better time in Ipanema. I bought into hype of Copacabana. Ipanema had the better clubs, restaurants, stores, and beach. Plus much less vendors on the beach.
I did Carnival last year. Had a great time! Do book ahead.
I would pretty muh agree with the above. Ipanema is nicer than Copacabana, and for nights out try Leme.
As a 22 years old citizen of Copacabana I can tell you:
Rent an apartment in copacabana and rent one bike to go to the beach in Ipanema.
