Hi all!

ok... my question is for those who have been either in Fiji Islands or French Polynesia, and specially in both of them.

If you'd have to choose only one stop in South Pacific (besides Australia & NZ)... will you go to Fiji or Papeete??? And why???

Gracias!

I'd pick Fiji, just because it will be much cheaper!

I haven't been to French Polynesia, so maybe it's worth the extra price tag, but I doubt it.

Cheaper in terms of accomodation, food or others?

Thanks Peter

Both. Cost of living is artificially high due to the French civil servants living there.

Check out this salary calculator. Cost of living in Papeete is estimated to be about 30% higher than Suva.

Looking at accommodation in our budget accommodation area, the cheapest hostel in Suva was $9.70 per night. In Huahine (sorry, no Papeete) the cheapest is $20 per night. Mind you, that's not to say that Fiji can't be expensive - because certainly a lot of the resorts there are outrageously overpriced as well! But I think you'll have more cheap options.

Then again, there are some cheap flights to Papeete these days, so if you can save some money in that department, it might make up for it.

Been to Fiji but not FP-as mentioned costs in FP are much higher for food/accommodation.
Gorgeous spot FP but I can't swing it :(

I've been to Fiji, Papeete and Bora Bora. BB was super expensive. Wish I had gone to Moorea instead.

I'd go to Fiji. You'll pay about $200 more in airfare but will save on everything else. If you go to either, let me know and I can offer advice.

I grew up in polynesia and put it this way I found London cheap when coming from Tahiti.
I guess that´s say all.

If I had to choose one stop in the South Pacific I'd choose the Cook Islands, which I absolutely loved. My second choice would be Samoa which was also excellent.

If I had to choose between Fiji and French Polynesia, I've only been to Fiji so I can't really say which is best, but Fiji was really good and definitely worth visiting.
