I went to Koh Lanta in December, and I'll warn you, if you don't have much time and you want to see/do a lot while you're in Thailand it might not be the best place for you. My friend and I were slightly disappointed with our trip there. The beaches were pretty nice, and not very crowded, but there wasn't that much to do. The island is a 2 hour ferry ride from Krabi, so to book tours of the other islands, rock climbing tours, and kayaking tours it was pretty inconvenient. It ended up taking a lot of time out of our vacation just to travel to and from the island, and we weren't able to do all that we wanted to do while there. However, if all you want to do is lay around on the beach, do a day hike here and there, and maybe rent a motorbike to explore the island, it would be a nice place to stay. Very slow-paced.

We stayed at Last Beach Resort, but I wouldn't reccommend it. Unless you're not concerned about having very small roomates running across your floor at night plan on spending at least $5/person/night. Also, the road is only paved for half of the length of the island, so it took over an hour to get to our hotel on a very bumpy dirt road in the back of a pickup truck, so try to stay in one of the resorts closer to the harbor and on a nice beach. Have fun in Thailand!

Koh Lanta is ok, but scenery isn't no where near as stunning as Phi Phi or Krabi. It's pretty quiet & more chilled out, but it's true there isn't much to do. But we only stayed 2 nights so didn't explore much. I stayed at a place called Lanta Sea house on Long beach, it was more for families though and isn't really a budget place. There are some cheaper places further down south of the Island, but I think they can be quite isolated i.e meaning there will only be one set of bungalows with it's own restaurant & bar & not much else.
