Gelli has almost been forced by fate to board a plane a couple of times.. But, his guardian angel has a fear of flying, and Gelli was able to secure alternative transportation just in time. ;)

Just give it some time, Gelli and I will make the rest of tp a hardcore no-flying movements board.

A Moderator, who shall remain nameless (but moderates Asia, System Talk and his share of Off Topic), and who is quite often sleep-deprived, misunderstood my comment. So, for the record, I shall clarify:

It is Gelli's Guardian Angel who suffers from a fear of flying - not Gelli!! But, rumor has it....

Who's Gelli?

He's a no-flying movement unto himself :) Profile

Wow, that's an impressive list of countries he's been to. How'd you find the money for all of that?

And where can I sign up.....

Sorry but you (one person) are contributing with around 2.45 tonnes of CO2 Emissions when you make a return fight to the States from Europe!
I really don't find environmental pollution of this scale to be very ha ha ha...

But it's not realistic to go from the USA to Europe without flying. No-flying holidays are an awesome idea, but to completely ban flying altogether would be stupid. If you did that I'd be stuck here in Australia without anywhere to go! :(

If you don't want flying at all then there needs to be some alternative.

Very true :(

Tasmania is a bit like a foreign country, but not quite good enough :)

I personally like the option of the CO2 neutralisation schemes, where you pay for a certain amount of trees to be planted to offset the emissions you are responsible for.

That and trying to use trains whenever it is actually possible. For instance, it is true that we can't really escape Australia without catching a plane. But we certainly can avoid any plane travel once we've made it to a place like Europe.

I've heard a bit about the CO2 neutralisation schemes. I'd like to look into this a bit more, do you have any suggestions of a particular trustworthy scheme Peter? :)

My opinion isn't that everyone has to take the boat between Europe and USA, or from Australia to anywhere. But perhaps be aware of how often and how many tonnes of CO2 emissions you contribute to when you take the plane. (Because it's a lot!)

I guess I just don't get the attitude from BjornParee, living in The Netherlands and all the boat might be his only option in the near future as I've never heard of any underwater airports...

Hey applegirl, check out www.climatecare.org

By the way, you'll probably be interested to know that the famous Gelli also tops Travellerspoint as the member that has travelled to most countries (or at least that has logged them here on TP). It's even more impressive when you consider the 'no flying' element!!
