Im unsure whether I really need to spend money on a Backpack. I am only going travelling for 6 weeks, most of my travel between countries will be via flights, except when going from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and from Penang to Ko Samui, so will a wheelie suitcase be ok???????

I cant imagine Il be lugging it about much, but was worried what happens to your luggage etc when on the bus, does it go in the hold? and is this safe? Obviously you hear all the time to watch your stuff incase it gets stolen.

I depart in less than 3 weeks so any help asap would be great!!!!!!!

You should be fine with a suitcase. I tend to prefer the wheeled suitcases a lot of the time (small ones at least), because they're quite convenient at airports.

It does depend how much you imagine yourself walking with it. Backpacks are very handy when you have to walk for 20 minutes to a hostel :)

It might be worth the investment if you are going to go travelling again in the future, where a backpack would pay dividends if you do a lot of walking...

Backpacks also make you look more like a 'traveller' ;) , but you see loads of people without them.

I also wouldn't treat taking a suitcase as an excuse to take 'everything but the kitchen sink' either
